Helen Virginia (Beachley) Purdy, 77, formerly of Falling Waters, West Virginia died peacefully on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Somerfield House and Place in Hagerstown.

Born on March 31, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Hubert W. and Mary V. (Sines) Beachley. 

Her husband of 58 years, Lawrence G. "Jack" Purdy, Jr., preceded her in death in 2009.

She was employed for 16 years as a Seamstress with the Sagner Clothing Company in Frederick, Maryland and had previously been employed at Hood College.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan D. Sexton of Myersville, Maryland; two sons, Lance W. Purdy and his wife Colleen of Hagerstown and Steven R. Purdy and his wife Debra of Walkersville, Maryland; one sister, Anna M. Fogle of Frederick, Maryland; six grandchildren, Brandon Purdy, Deanna Purdy, Jennifer and her husband Brent Hensley, Jamie Sexton, Christopher Purdy and his wife Jennifer and Justin Purdy and his wife Jennifer; and two great-grandsons, Devon and Cayden Purdy.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 1 - 2:30 p.m. at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. A funeral ceremony will follow at 2:30 p.m.   Rev. Robert A. Krempels will officiate.  Interment will be at the Boonsboro Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
